Sunday Sit-down: A New ZuneSpring Begins

February 14th, 2010 by Travis Pope

Those who follow the ZuneSpring on my personal Twitter will know that tomorrow starts a big week for us. First at Mobile World Conference Microsoft is preparing for what could very well be the keynote to make or break Steve Ballmer’s career as well as change the face of both Windows Mobile & Zune alike. Also I’ll be heading to Microsoft’s Redmond Campus for what surely will be one of the most exciting experiences of my life, the MVP Summit. Because of both of these event’s I’ll be taking the week off from my full time job. You know what that means, an entire week to bring ZuneSpring up to where it should be without interference from the real world. Tell me what new areas you would like to see, or where no frontiers you would like us to venture into. I will not stop until this site is the best it can possibly be and that involves each and every person who reads, and enjoys what we do here.

All that plus your MailBag questions, Social Report, and FreePicks! Remember to email us travis@zunespring.com Check out the podcast here.

January 30th, 2010 by Travis Pope

Staring funny man Bill Maher, Religulous tells the story of one man trying to find his way to cosmic clarity. Yes, I’m kidding. Really it’s a documentary poking fun at all that may be wrong with believing in a higher power.

You haven’t had enough excitement today dear ZuneSpring reader? You want more news from the update bonanza happening today? Friend of the site Josh has spotted support for .avi files in the software. How did he spot it you ask? Yeah he just hit play.

Sadly still no support for .avi on the device side of things but until that comes later this spring you’ll be able to have the Zune software convert movies to wmv or mp4 and then sync them over. Check out the details at Josh’s blog t03.us

Zune Services to Go Down on Monday

January 22nd, 2010 by Travis Pope

On Tuesday, January 25th Zune services will go down for maintenance for 24 hours.

“The Zune service will be offline starting at 10 pm on Monday, January 25 and we anticipate all Zune services will be available again within 24 hours. As with previous updates, we are recommending users download any new music, videos or podcasts and sync Zune Pass content they want prior to the downtime, otherwise they’ll have to wait until the service is back up to download new content. Content that is already stored in their PC or Xbox HDD will continue to remain available during the downtime.”

You heard it here folks. Zune.net streaming, Zune Pass, & Zune Video XBOX, and the Zune Marketplace, will not be available for 24hrs starting Monday. On Tuesday night operations will resume and you’ll be prompted to download updated versions of the Zune 30, 80, 120, 4, and 8, firmware & an updated copy of the Zune Software.

January 22nd, 2010 by Travis Pope

This morning Microsoft confirmed the reorganization of the Entertainment & Devices division of which both Zune and Windows Media Center are a part of.

“As a natural evolution of the Interactive Entertainment Business, our consumer products and experiences focused on games, movies, TV and music will move into IEB, led by SVP Don Mattrick. In addition, we’ve formed a new centralized E&D services infrastructure team, which will act as a combined resource across the division. Finally, Enrique Rodriguez has decided to move on from his leadership position running the TV, video and music business and is evaluating his next career opportunity. The TVM first party business, Zune and Windows Medica Center will move to IEB, and Mediaroom, the TV platform businesss, will become a standalone group within E&D, reporting directly to (E&D) President Robbie Bach.”
