Zune Software & Services

Zune Software platform is a digital music & jukebox application that allows users access the to the Zune device, and Marketplace. It has received numerous updates including a massive update on November 14, 2007 and feature updates on April 14, and October 6, 2008.


Zune Marketplace
debuted along with the Zune 30 on November 14, 2006. Originally built atop the MTV Urge platform, it received a interface redesign, videos, and DRM-free MP3s in November 2007. In April 2008 TV Shows joined all the rest of the content in the Zune Marketplace, followed shortly after by Channels, and Picks.

Zune Social was introduced to users while still in beta during the November 2007 update. Featuring a MySpace like environment when used with the Zune software you could also explore user’s listening habits. It received a cosmetic update on October 6, 2008.

Zune Originals is a service launched by Microsoft on November 13, 2006 that gave online purchasers of the Zune the ability to customize the back of the player with text and graphics.
