From the Tips Box: Zune Pass Coming to Canada Next Year?

August 24th, 2010 by Travis Pope

I’ve yet to use our “Speculation” category this year, something that doesn’t make me feel all that bad. Rumors are hard to interpret correctly, and for the most part very difficult to verify. We’ll when video of a Microsoft rep saying “Zune Pass is something we’re working on for next year”, arrives, I’ve really have no reasons to not post it. Do I think this guy is credible.. not really. You be the judge. Shout out to Nick for the link, all 3o times, you the man!  What do you guys think? It’s about 8 minutes in.

Microsoft Announces XNA 4.0 Will Not Support ZuneHD

March 9th, 2010 by Travis Pope Tags: , ,

With just a week left until Microsoft’s MIX developer conference Microsoft’ employee Michael Kulcher is now talking publicly about what devices and services will be compatible with it’s forthcoming XNA 4.0 software. True, you could read the entire article but we’ll sum up why you might want to read it closely;

When we first announced XNA was a development platform for the Windows Phone 7 Series last week and followed up with some real-time Twitter Q&A (@WP7Dev), we got a lot of questions about Zune/Zune HD and how that will work with XNA Game Studio 4.0. Development for the Zune and Zune HD will continue to exist in XNA Game Studio 3.1, however, in XNA Game Studio 4.0, we’re encouraging you to migrate your games over to the Windows Phone 7 Series platform.

Yes, you read right. Microsoft will leave the ZuneHD attached to the current version of XNA, but before you read too much into it, read on.

More Codecs Coming to the ZuneHD Then Previously Thought?

January 17th, 2010 by Travis Pope

This morning @norrathreave, decided to browse around the ZuneHD’s player firmware. Nothing too exciting at first, a little MTP transfer protocol here, various PNG image files there. That is until he stumbled upon a few nice little tidbits of code in the firmware.

Target Will No Longer Carry Zune in Stores

November 24th, 2009 by Travis Pope

The next time you decide to checkout Zune or pick one up, remember to not head to your nearest Target location. According to research we’ve done, including trips to ever Target in our area, and confirmation by two inside sources, Target has decided to not carry the Zune devices, and accessories in any of it’s retail locations. To quote our source:

“They we’re pulled before the ZuneHD made it’s debut, so they were’t really selling all that well.”

Currently we’ve got no official comment from Target nor Microsoft, but we’ll keep you updated with any statements or press releases they make. It is worth noting some select Zune accessories and the red Zune 120 are still available online at Target’s website.

Zune Video Not Coming Until November?

September 15th, 2009 by Travis Pope

From Paul Thurott

At midnight ET, I’ll be able to post my first batch of Zune HD content. This will consist of three hands-on photo galleries and part one of what will initially be a four-part review. Later on, I’ll have some screenshot galleries and more of the review of course. Much later (November), there’ll be some Zune/Xbox news. This is all previously announced and whatnot, I’m just mentioning here so you know what to expect.
WInSuperSite

If u read carefully it says in no small terms that there is Zune/XBox news coming in November and that said news has already been announced. There was only one bit of XBOX/Zune news we know about, the video store.

Matt Akers Possibly Hints At A Complete Entertainment Ecosystem

September 4th, 2009 by Travis Pope

With people already touchy about their older Zunes not being manufactured, some cheering up isn’t necessarily a bad thing. With that in mind Matt Akers of the Zune team may have given us the ammo we needed to move on to another story with this tweet:

Matt Akers: @jasondunn I disagree… software + services + xbox + zune hd = a sweet ecosystem…

Notice he throws XBOX in there as well. Maybe we really are going to see more then just Zune video coming to the big white box? Sadly he doesn’t go into any detail.
